I’m Emma Labourne (GBR719) and I windsurf for the GBR National Junior Squad which is basically the top 18 or so windsurfers in the country. I train every week, at least, and my local club is North Lincolnshire and Humberside sailing Club. I’m 14 years old and I have finished my second year in the National Junior Squad.

The competition season will be starting up again in March time and I’m hoping to have a good start and maintain that through out the season.

At the Youth and Masters last October I got 2nd 6.8 girl.Over the 3 days in the event there were 2 very different conditions, one being hardly any wind to race the other being too much the wind averaging over 35 knots.

At the RYA Youth and Masters at the beginning of October I achieved 3rd overall and 1st under 17 girl in my first big under 17 event, which I was extremely happy about. Over the weekend there were some very challenging conditions, one day there wasn’t much wind and the next it was blowing a constant 30 knots! Never the less, I managed to hold my position and came out with an excellent result.

Atfter the racing season finished at the end of October I attened the UKWA Prize Giving, un fortunately I changed from the 6.8 under 15 fleet to the 7.8 under 17 fleet before the season had finished so it changed my results, however, I still managed to get 2nd 6.8 girl overall in the Inland Series and 2nd 6.8 girl in the Cup Series, which I was happy about. Also much to my surprise I won the Bic Techno Windsurfer Of The Year award, which was a huge shock but I was so happy to win this amazing award!

TECHNO 293 WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS 2010!

24th-31st July it was the World Championships and I hoped to podium, but after the first day I was 5th which was disappointing but I was determined to improve my position. Whith over 440 sailors on the water and 32 of the worlds best under 15 girls in our fleet it was very tough and I was 3rd until the last race and managed to get 2nd!!!

In April 2011 I got selected as one of 6 7.8 sailors to represent Great Britain at the French Nationals in Dunkirk. We drove down a few days before the competition to get to know the venue. It was a tough three day competition and in uncharacteristic hot weather for that area. Also the tide played a big part so we had to do a lot of thinking ahead. In the 7.8 girls fleet there were 22, but in the boys there was around 90 so the start line got pretty crowded for them and the competition in both fleets was very close. At the end of the 3 days I had got bronze which I was happy with because it was first international competition on 7.8, but I way also disapionted because I messed up and got 6th in the last race, I only needed 3 less points to have won. In the boys Kieran Martin came out on top with Adam Purcell and Robert York close behind him, both coming top 20.
